Ryanair Announce Cuts In Dublin Service
Ryanair are to announce cuts to its Dublin service later this morning.
The airline says it has been facing difficulties with the €10 departure levy, introduced as part of last year's Government Budget.
Last week, the airline announced plans to reduce services at Shannon and cut the number of aircraft at the Co Clare facility from six to four.
Ryanair has blamed the move on the Government's airport tax, which it claims has caused traffic declines in traffic to the UK and Holland, and is "devastating forward bookings".
A spokesman for the company previously said the downscaling at Shannon would cost up to 700 jobs for the area.
The company is yet to estimate the scale of job losses yet to come in the aftermath of the Dublin reduction.
However, despite the claims of the, the Airline last week reported an 11% increase in passengers for January 2009.
Ryanair has lobbied hard against the plan to impose a €10 levy on all passengers at the main Irish airports from April 1st this year.
It says any tax should instead be levied as a percentage of the air fare.
