Man Stabbed To Death In Cork

An appeal for witnesses has been launched after a man was stabbed to death in Cork.

Gardaí investigating yesterday morning's fatal stabbing say they want to speak to a man who may have been in the area at the time.

The 27-year-old victim, has been named as Eddie Gallagher. He was stabbed in the Friar's Walk area at around 7.00am yesterday. He died in hospital a short time later.

Detectives were yesterday trying to determine whether he was stabbed inside a two-storey terraced house in Friars Walk or whether the wounds were inflicted on the road outside.

Garda technical experts cordoned off a section of the road outside the house where they found blood and the house was also sealed off.

It is understood the dead man may have got into an argument with two men who left the area shortly afterwards. However, this was just one of a number of possibilities being examined by gardaí. Gardaí are still trying to determine what the young man was doing in the area at the time.

Officers investigating the murder say they are anxious to speak to a man in his 50s or 60s who may have been in the vicinity of the incident.

He was wearing a dark jumper, dark trousers and a cap.
