Gas Bills Could Be Slashed By 25%
Bord Gais has announced it is preparing to slash energy costs with both average gas bills falling by as much as a quarter and costs for its newly launched electricity service undercutting other suppliers.
The company is giving a guarantee to new customers that it will beat the ESB domestic electricity rate by 10% for a minimum of three years.
Under today's proposals, consumers could save up to €333 on their annual energy bills as the supplier believes its gas prices could fall by 25% by the end of the year.
Bord Gais Chief Executive John Mullins said the company was in a position to make the electricity price cuts because of the efficiency levels expected from its new generation plant at Whitegate.
A spokesman for the company said: "The offer guaranteed minimum savings of 10% off ESB rates for all customers in the first year, with a price guarantee of lower rates against any future changes in ESB prices.
"Additional discounts are available to customers choosing to pay by direct debit and to existing Bord Gáis Energy natural gas customers."
Mr Mullins said the company's objective was to significantly grow their customer base by offering better choice.
"We are confident that customers will make the switch to electricity from Bord Gáis Energy.
"We now look forward to real competition in the Irish energy market, which has clear benefits to customers and Ireland Inc," he said.
