Over 350,000 on the Live Register
The number of people on the Live Register stood at almost 353,000 at the end of February, according to the Central Statistics Office.
The latest figures mean an increase of 26,700 on January's record breaking 326,100.
The Live Register figure at the end of last month shows an 87.1% increase in a year, which is the fastest rise in unemployment in the history of the register.
Men account for 71% of the increase over the past year with an average of almost 10,000 men being added to the dole every month since this time last year.
The high percentage of male unemployment indicates a large amount of layoffs in the construction industry.
The figures come as it emerges Canada is closing its doors to young Irish workers. The country's Visa scheme, which allows under 35-year-olds to work there has been temporarily closed.
The move is a major blow to people struggling to get employment in other countries due to the dire domestic situation.
