Five Arrested In Connection With Tallaght Shooting
Gardai investigating the fatal shooting of Seamus (Shay) O'Byrne, last Friday, have arrested a fifth person.
The 31-year-old male was arrested on Tuesday afternoon. He is detained at Tallaght Garda Station for questioning.
Shay O'Byrne, 27, was shot three times in the back as he attempted to escape his killers during an orchestrated attack. His girlfriend, Sharon Rattigan, suffered a gunshot wound to the leg but their 18-month-old toddler Nicky escaped unharmed.
According to reports, Ms Rattigan, 26, who grappled with the gunman outside their home at Tymon North, Tallaght, discharged herself from hospital on Saturday.
Garda have released all four people, including a teenage girl, who had been in custody as part of the investigation into the fatal shooting. They were released late on Monday evening and files are being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The 16-year-old girl, arrested on Monday, is understood to be linked to one of the men arrested by armed detectives immediately after the shooting. The young woman was taken to Terenure garda Station, while the others, one from Crumlin and two from Tallaght, were quizzed at Rathfarnham and Tallaght stations.
The shooting, which has been linked to an ongoing feud between Dublin's major criminal gangs has sparked fears there could be a return to violence after months of relative calm.
