St Patrick's Day Success Despite Trouble
A number of anti-social incidents have failed to upset the St Patrick's day celebrations in Ireland.
An estimated 675,000 people lined the streets of Dublin for the annual St Patrick's Day parade.
The event, which included 2,000 performers and over 900 marching band members, was one of many taking place around the country - and across the globe - to mark the day.
President Mary McAleese was in attendance, and the spectacle was broadcast live on RTÉ 1 television.
However, there were a number of incidents in Dublin following the St Patrick's Day festivities, including some minor attacks on fire brigades.
Dublin Fire Brigade said 22 car fires and 18 other fires associated with anti-social behaviour were among the calls answered between 6pm on Tuesday and 3am this morning.
It was also reported that 200 ambulance calls were also received.
In Belfast, five people have been charged after disturbances in the Holylands student area.
Trouble started on Tuesday afternoon when police moved in to clear people who had gathered on a street during St Patrick's Day celebrations.
However, the mini 'riot' was in stark contrast to the scene in Belfast city centre - which was transformed into a sea of colour and music.
Hundreds lined the route from the City Hall to Custom House Square, where Dungiven X-Factor star Quigg delighted the crowds.

Howth Head Rescue Drama Revealed
It has emerged that seven people nearly became St Patrick's Day victims, as they had to be rescued at Howth Head on Wednesday night after becoming stranded by an incoming tide. The five men and two women were celebrating on a small beach in the vicinity of the Bailey lighthouse in Co Dublin when they became trapped.

'Promote Ireland' Programme Announced For St Patrick's Day
The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Charlie Flanagan, has announced the 'Promote Ireland' programme of international events marking St Patrick's Day 2017. The programme will see the Taoiseach, Tánaiste and 27 Ministers taking part in over 100 business events and high-level political meetings in 27 countries.

14 Arrested In Connection With St Patrick's Day 'Violent Incident'
Fourteen men have been arrested in connection with a "violent incident" in Mullingar on St Patrick's Day last year, Garda have reported. The men, ranging in age from late teens to mid 40s, were arrested on Wednesday morning by officers investigating an incident in Dominick Street, Mullingar, on 17 March 2015.

€23m Announced For St Patrick's Day Campaign
A total of €23 million is to be spent on Ireland's largest ever St Patrick's Day celebrations. The government and Tourism Ireland have announced plans for a worldwide campaign to coincide with St Patrick's Day, which will see the ancient Rock of Petra in Jordan turned green along with three ski slopes in Norway, Canada and Austria.
