Dublin Man Jailed For Hit and Run

A Dublin man has been jailed for seven years after killing a 20-year-old English student in a hit-and-run three years ago.

Eric Doyle of Whitechurch Avenue, Ballyboden, in County Dublin, was already banned from driving for four years when he knocked down and killed Lilly Hastings-Bass on the Rathgar Road on the 26th of November 2006.

Dublin Circuit Criminal Court heard today that when questioned, the 44-year-told Gardai that a traveller was responsible for the accident.

He was sentenced to seven years in prison and disqualified from driving for life.

Doyle has 39 previous convictions for road traffic offences and was banned from driving during the time of the incident.

Fraud Offences Sees Largest Increase In Recorded Crime
Fraud offences saw the biggest increase in the year to June 2019, according to the latest Central Statistics Office (CSO) Recorded Crime report. According to the report, the number of fraud offences recorded by An Garda Síochána rose by 34.4%; from 5,405 to 7,265 recorded incidents. The report also show that drug offences increased by 16.

Man Due In Court Charged With Murder Of Marek Swider
A 38-year-old man is due to appear in court this morning charged in connection with the murder of Marek Swider. Mr Swider, 40, was fatally stabbed on New Years Eve on Dublin Road, Ballyjamesduff in Cork. The suspect was arrested in Cork city on 04 January.
