Irish Company Charged Over Illegal Trade With Iran
An Irish trading company and three of its officers have been charged with purchasing helicopter engines and other aircraft components from U.S. firms and illegally exporting them to Iran using companies in Malaysia and the United Arab Emirates.
A 25-count indictment unsealed in federal court in Washington charges the Mac Aviation Group, a company registered in Ireland that brokers aircraft parts and related goods for foreign customers, and three men of buying the components from U.S. companies and sending them to Iran through companies in Malaysia and the United Arab Emirates.
The defendants are Thomas McGuinn, also known as Tom McGuinn, a 72-year-old citizen and resident of Ireland who is the owner, director and principal officer of Mac Aviation, as well as his son, Sean McGuinn, a 40-year-old citizen and resident of Ireland, who serves as sales/procurement director of MacAviation, and Sean Byrne, who serves as the commercial manager of MacAviation.
The defendants have been charged with two counts each of conspiracy, 19 counts of violating the regulations restricting transactions with Iran and four counts of false statement.

On-Duty Firefighter Arrested On Suspicion Of Drink Driving
A fireman has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving while on duty behind the wheel of a fire engine. The man was driving a fire truck on the Callan Road, Kilkenny over the weekend and approached a checkpoint. It is believed he was returning from an emergency incident and failed a breath test. He was issued a fixed charged penalty notice.

As the Euro value heads skywards, Irish shoppers are migrating north to cash in on the widening price gap. A survey by the National Consumer Council (NCC) has shown the disparity between the Republic's prices and that of the North is steadily growing, prompting shoppers to cross the border for their groceries.
