Dublin Airport Protest Leads To Disruption
A protest at Dublin Airport by SR Technics workers has caused traffic disruption in the area.
Gardai are advising that there may be disruption near Dublin Airport from around 11am due to a march planned by the employees of SR Technics. Gardai are at the scene to assist with traffic management.
Yesterday, the worker's union Siptu called the SR Technics "mean fisted" over their response to a Labour Court ruling to meet the deficit in the employee's pension funds.
Siptu Branch Organiser Pat Ward said: "This is a company backed by some of the wealthiest business people in the world, including Mubadala, the sovereign investment vehicle for the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, yet it says it can barely afford to pay statutory redundancy to its workers, 60% of which will be refunded by the Irish taxpayer.
"Our primary concern is to save as many jobs as possible at the Dublin facility and secure decent severance packages for workers who are laid off."
AA Road Watch said the protesters are planning to block the main entrance to the Airport at the Roundabout where the exit from M1 meets the R132 (Swords Rd).
A spokesman added that intending passengers should factor this in to their travel plans and allow extra time to get to the airport.
