Fine Gael Hold Ard Fheis This Weekend
Fine Gael are to hold their Ard Fheis this weekend in Co Dublin.
Delegates from Ireland's largest opposition party will gather for the opening ceremony this evening at the Citywest hotel in Saggart.
Party Leader Enda Kenny has said this year's Ard Fheis will be crucial in the preparation of the party's plan for national economic recovery.
One of the major priorities at the annual conference will be outlining a strategy for the up-coming elections in June.
A spokesman for the party said the agenda would feature plans to mount high-intensity campaigns all over the country for the European and Local Elections on June 5.
"Fine Gael is moving closer towards its goal of becoming the biggest political organisation in the State, and is out-polling Fianna Fáil for the last six months on a national level," the spokesman said.
Fianna Gael topped a recent poll by the Irish Times as the most popular party in Ireland.
The major strategy to achieve election by the party is in its approach to the economy, and the Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny outlined his party's plans for €11 billion in new investments between 2010-13, to be discussed this weekend.
Addressing delegates at the Young Fine Gael's National Conference in Athlone, Mr Kenny said: “Ireland needs a new Government, with a new mandate, to take our country in a new direction. That reality has grown clearer and clearer with every passing day of this current economic crisis.
"There is no coherence, no competence and no confidence emerging from Government as they lurch from one ill-informed and incorrect decision to another."
He added: "I am prepared to lead the country out of this vacuum with a new mandate in a new direction."
