Garda Struck With Bottle At Beach Rave

A Garda has had to receive treatment after being struck on the forehead by a bottle.

The incident occurred as officers investigated complaints about a beach "rave" in Dublin.

The officer, who is in his 30s, was left bleeding profusely from a head wound after an unknown attacker threw a glass bottle from the crowd leaving him with head injuries.

He was one of several gardai called to the scene of the unofficial beach party.

Up to 200 youths had gathered on South Shore beach in Rush, North County Dublin on Good Friday night.

Complaints were received at around 2am, and three garda patrol cars went to the scene and found the area cordoned off with windbreakers.

A DJ was playing music and officers approached him to ask him to stop. It is understood the DJ was agreeing to close up without trouble.

At that point a bottle flew out from the crowd, striking the garda on the forehead.

He was taken from the scene to Beaumont Hospital, where he received several stitches.

An investigation into the assault is ongoing, although no arrests have yet been made.
