Red Cross Launches Bike Units For Limerick City

The Red Cross has introduced bikes to administer first aid at large public gatherings in Limerick.

A bike unit was launched in the city after being used at the St Patrick's Day Parade. It is the second bike unit in the county following the unit operating in Cork since 2007.

The unit has two bikes, which will be used to reach casualties at large venues and administer first aid.

A national training course is being developed for the units and will take place in the coming weeks.

All members are trained in intermediate first aid and advanced EMFR (Emergency Medical First Responder). Each crew always operates with at least one EMFR.

The Red Cross has another four vehicles in Limerick – two ambulances, an off-road ambulance and a minibus.
