Ex AIB Manager Hunted By Gardaí And Interpol
Gardaí and Interpol have launched a hunt for an ex-AIB manager in connection with the disappearance of €2 million.
Kieran Ashcroft, aged around 40, of Courtmacsherry, Co Cork, is an ex-employee of AIB in Mallow.
He was dismissed from the bank following an internal investigation in 2002, which found €2 million in clients' investment funds had gone missing.
Ireland's Director of Public Prosecutions has directed that a book of evidence be served on Ashcroft in relation to the complaints.
Reports today suggest that Mr Ashcroft had told clients he had been in the process of setting up his own financial company while working at the bank.
A search for the the missing man had initially led officers to Spain, but searches there have yet to find any trace of Ashcroft.
On Tuesday a Cork Circuit Criminal Court heard - during the trial of a bank porter who was acquitted on charges of money laundering - had cashed over €100,000 in cheques for Ashcroft.
