No Free Transfers To Fianna Fáil Say Greens
The Green Party has rejected suggestions that voters should transfer votes to its troubled coalition partners Fianna Fail.
Green Senator Dan Boyle has said the Green Party strategy is to get its candidates elected and the party will not be advising voters to transfer to Fianna Fáil or any other party.
Senator Boyle said on Thursday morning that despite being in Government the Green Party has never had an election pact and this will not change.
The move is being seen as an attempt by the Greens to distance themselves from the Government party, which is expected to take a battering in the forthcoming June elections.
"What we'll be saying to our supporters is that we want to maximise our first-preference vote, maintain those votes . . . and if transfers are available subsequently, look at each set of elections differently, and transfer accordingly," Mr Boyle said.
The Green Party today also launched its candidates for the two bye-elections which take place alongside the European and Local elections on June 5.
David Geary, who is contesting a seat on Dublin City Council will run in Dublin Central, while Elizabeth Davidson, who is contesting a seat on South Dublin County Council will run in Dublin South.
