Remand On Dublin Woman's Death

A 61-year-old man has appeared in court charged with the unlawful killing of his wife in Ballybrack in Dublin last November.

Thomas Breen, of Willowvale in Ballybrack, was charged before Dún Laoghaire District Court.

57-year-old Carmel Breen's body was found at her home in Ballybrack on 7 November.

In court today, Mr Breen was remanded on bail of €5,000 until 21 July and was ordered to surrender his passport.

Last year, after the police were called out - with regard to a domestic incident - the woman was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene by a doctor.

A man was arrested at the scene in connection with the incident and was detained at Dun Laoighre Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

Gardai Investigate Shooting In Ballybrack
Gardai are investigating a shooting at a house in Ballybrack, south Dublin. A shot was fired at the front door of a house on Lambay Drive around 6am on Wednesday morning. There were people in the house at the time of the shooting, but there were no injuries. A car was reportedly heard speeding from the scene.

Self Preservation No Defence As Killer Sentenced
A Dublin man has been handed down a heavy term for the fatal stabbing of a friend after both had enjoyed New Year's celebrations. Karl Breen, (27) from Clondalkin, admitted stabbing 21-year-old Martin McLoughlin, but said he did it to defend himself, describing the deceased as a "dirty fighter".

Murder Investigation Underway After Discovery Of Child's Body
Gardaí have launched a murder investigation following the discovery of a 2-year-old boy's body at an apartment in South Dublin. It is understood officers found the body at about 15:00 on Thursday at an apartment in Ridge Hall, Ballybrack. The child was pronounced dead at the scene. According to reports the child had sustained stab wounds.
