Fianna Fail Face Failure At Elections
An opinion poll has indicated Fianna Fáil is at risk of big losses in elections taking place in less than a week.
With both the local and European elections, as well as several crucial by-elections coming soon, they are facing major losses at the hands of the electorate, according to the tns/MRBI poll.
The Labour Party is the only party to show significant improvements since the last poll a fortnight ago, while Fine Gael is down two points. However, Fine Gael is still by far the biggest party, with 36% support.
Any hopes for a late surge in support for the government as the election campaign enters its final week seem doubtful, as the it gears up for tough week ahead.
The party's support is at 20%, down one point since the last Irish Times poll two weeks ago. Labour conversely is up three points to 23%, in second place ahead of Fianna Fáil.
The Greens are unchanged at three, Sinn Féin has dropped one to eight, and Independents and others are up one to 10.
The poll also says that a huge 84% of the voters are dissatisfied with the performance of the government with almost every category of voters equally unhappy.
