Three Killed On Roads Over Weekend

A total of three deaths have occurred on Irish roads over the weekend.

In the first incident, a female driver in her 50s was fatally injured when her car collided with another vehicle and a third vehicle was also involved.

Two other people were injured, their injuries are not described as life threatening.

Gardaí at Swinford, Co Mayo are investigating the deadly collision which occurred at approximately 6.35pm on Friday evening on the N5 at Bahola. The N5 is the main road between Westport and Dublin.

In another incident, police at Askeaton, Co Limerick are investigating a two vehicle fatal road traffic collision which also occurred on Friday at around 6pm, this time on the N69 at Kildimo. The N69 is the main road between Limerick and Kerry.

A male passenger, 23-year-old Wai Kit Kwong, was killed as a result of the collision in Limerick. He was a Malaysian National with an address in Easons Avenue, Shandon Street, Cork. The male driver of the other vehicle was uninjured, although his male passenger was hurt.

Meanwhile, Gardaí at Leixlip Co Kildare are investigating a three car collision which occurred at Pike Bridge on the main Maynooth to Leixlip Road, R148, on Saturday at approximately 7am.

A male driver in his 20s was fatally injured in the collision and two males, who where the drivers of other vehicles and only occupants, were also injured.

The men invlved in the incident were removed to James Connolly Hospital, Blanchardstown. Gardaí say their conditions are not life threatening.

Two Killed On Ireland's Roads Over Weekend
Two male drivers have died in separate road collisions over the weekend. Gardai are investigating the latest incident, which occurred on N9 at Bagenalstown, County Carlow at approximately 6.25am yesterday. A 17-year-old male was fatally injured when the car he was driving collided with a wall. He was pronounced dead at scene.

Four Dead Within 24 Hours On Irish Roads
Two drivers have been killed on roads in the Irish Republic in the past 24 hours as well as two others in the North. Gardai at Maynooth, Co Kildare are investigating the most recent incident when a two vehicle fatal road traffic collision occurred at Laraghbyran, Maynooth last night 19th October 10.00pm. The collision involved two cars.

NRA Call For Introduction Of Additional Tolls On M50
The National Roads Authority (NRA) has called for the introduction of more tolls on the M50 in an effort to address gridlock on the countries busiest road. The NRA said that "effective measures" were needed to address congestion on the M50, and that traffic control decisions needed to be "taken now".

N5 Open To The Public
After 16 months of construction and an investment of €26 million, the N5 Longford Bypass opens 2 months ahead of schedule. Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Leo Varadkar, welcomed the opening of the N5 Longford Bypass. "The bypass will dramatically improve the town environment for residents, traders and the public in general.

Railway Museum Plan Runs Out Of Steam
A major tourism development that would have newly expanded an existing rail museum in West Clare has been rejected by An Bord Pleanála. The official body said that plans for the road and rail were turned down on road safety grounds.
