Man Stabbed To Death In Carlow

A woman has been arrested after a man was stabbed to death in County Carlow.

The incident occurred in an apartment in Barrow Mills, Graiguecullen, Carlow at approximately 2am in the early hours of Friday morning.

The 37-year-old man was taken to St Luke’s Hospital Kilkenny with stab wounds. He was later pronounced dead.

A 40-year-old woman was arrested at the scene and is being detained at Carlow Garda Station. The woman was also later taken to the hospital for medical treatment.

Gardaí in Carlow are investigating and the scene has been preserved for a Garda technical examination. The Office of the State Pathologist has also been notified.

The incident comes within days of the stabbing to death of a 20-year-old man in what is believed to have been an unprovoked attack in Galway.

Kieran Cunningham, from Slieve Finn in Co Galway, died from stab wounds he received minutes after leaving a nightclub in the city centre in the early hours of Wednesday night.

Gardai have asked anyone who was in the area of Barrow Mills apartments in Graiguecullen and may have witnessed or possess information on the Carlow incident to contact them at Carlow Garda station on 059 9136620.

Yellow Weather Warning Issued For Heavy Rain
A yellow weather warning for rain has been put in place across many counties in Ireland. The warning came into effect at 11pm on Sunday night, 13 October, and is in place until 11.59pm on Monday, 14 October. The warning is for Munster, Connacht, Carlow, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Wexford, Offaly and Westmeath.

Water Conservation Orders Lifted As Rainfall Increases
Irish Water has announced the water conservation orders have been lifted in the Southern, Eastern and Midlands regions. The areas that have had their order lifted include: Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary, Cork, Waterford, Wexford, Kilkenny, Carlow, Laois, Offaly, Wicklow, Meath, Westmeath, Louth and Dublin.

Status Yellow Warnings Issued For Rain And Low Temperatures
Two Status Yellow weather warnings have been issued for rain and low temperatures. A rainfall warning has been issued for counties Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford. Rainfall of between 30 and 50 mm is expected in many areas with a risk of flooding.

Gardaí Investigate Farm Deaths
Gardaí are investigating the deaths of two men in County Carlow yesterday. George Rothwell, 71, and his brother-in-law Michael Jordon, 51, were both discovered dead at their adjacent farms in Ballycormac. Gardaí believe Mr Jordon shot Mr Rothwell and then contacted the emergency services before taking his own life.
