Agreement Reached Over Lufthansa Technik Jobs
Agreement has been reached during talks to save over 400 jobs at aircraft engine maintenance company Lufthansa Technik Airmotive.
The talks are said to have lasted 11 hours, but it has since emerged that both sides have agreed on a document they believe will help to implement the previously disputed working arrangements.
Management at the aircraft engine maintenance plant in Rathcoole had warned workers would be put on protective notice from Monday unless they adopt the new practices.
Earlier this year, workers voted to accept proposals to secure a €28.5m investment in the plant but managers claimed employees were failing to honour the agreement and some staff were refusing to do overtime, which led to work being turned away.
However, staff representatives said overtime was being forced on some staff, while other workers were on a reduced working week.
On Thursday evening Lufthansa Technik Airmotive said the threat of protective notice had been lifted and that both sides would work on the detail of the clarification of the agreement.
The company confirmed that jobs at the plant were safe.

Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Mary Coughlan, who is currently facing uncertainty over her own job, had expressed concern about the situation and urged the workers to seriously consider their actions.
