Toolin Travel Ceases Trading

One of the country's biggest travel agents has collapsed, throwing plans of thousands of Dublin and Kildare holidaymakers into disarray.

The Commission for Aviation announced on Saturday that Toolin Travel, which has eight branches in both counties, ceased trading with immediate effect.

It is believed that no holidaymakers have been stranded overseas, but customers who have a booking with the firm are now being urged to contact their airline, ferry company or other travel provider to establish the status of their booking and make alternative arrangements if necessary.

A statement from the aviation commission said: "Any customers who purchased overseas travel from the company during the period in which it held a licence and who wish to claim refunds for any money that had not been passed on to the suppliers may do so from the Commission for Aviation Regulation."

A claim form is available online from here.

The Commission warned refunds would only be paid for holidays booked during the time when the company held a licence and would only apply to any money that had not been passed on to a supplier of the firm.

According to the Commission's website, the licence was due to expire at the end of next month.

Toolin Travel is the second travel agent to go bust so far this summer, following the collapse of Greystones Travel in Co Wicklow last month.
