Fires Claim Two Irish Lives
An elderly woman has died following a Dublin house fire.
The blaze was in the Sutton area, in the north of the capital and broke out at a house on Offington Drive at around 11pm.
A woman in her 70s was alone in the house at the time and was rushed to Beaumont Hospital, but died a short time later.
Three units of the Dublin Fire Brigade attended the scene and eventually brought the fire under control at around 1am.
An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the blaze
Meanwhile, an 18-month-old girl has died after an overnight blaze at her home in Dungiven, Co Londonderry.
The fire broke out in a bedroom of their house, in Killyblight Road, around 23pm on Tuesday. A fire appliance from Dungiven and two from Limavady attended the incident.
All the members of the family escaped from the house, but the baby girl later died in hospital.
Her three brothers, aged under 12, and her parents suffered severe smoke inhalation, although they are now in a stable condition in hospital.
Police said the fire is not being treated as suspicious.
