Body On Beach Probe Gets Fresh Lead
The gardaí in Sligo have confirmed that they are following a number of lines of inquiry as they continue to try to identify the body of the man washed up on Rosses Point beach last Tuesday morning.
The body was found shortly before 7am that morning and oddly, had no personal effects, phone wallet or any form of identification with his clothing.
The findings of a subsequent post mortem carried out on Wednesday evening have not been made revealed as police are waiting for the deceased to be identified so that the next-of-kin can be notified.
It has also emerged that gardaí are also liaising with the PSNI in the North as part of their bid to identify the man.
Supt. Michael Barrett, who is leading the investigation, says they have had a good response from the public so far and a number of leads are being followed.
The victim was wearing swimming trunks and had not been in the water very long, according to gardaí.
They have already said that there are no reported missing persons in the country fitting the description of the man believed to be aged between 50-65.
They also confirmed that enquiries have been made at hotels, hostels and bed and breakfasts in the locality to no avail.
The man's clothes were found nearby but there was no personal effects, car keys or identification with them.
