Flooding In Mayo And Galway Overnight
Following flash flooding in Dublin and Donegal on Monday, Mayo and Galway have faced their own night of downpours and hazardous floods.
Currently, road conditions in parts of county Mayo and Galway are said to be improving after the serious flooding last night.
Gardaí in Co Mayo said motorists should exercise caution as there may still be surface water on some routes this morning.
Several hours of torrential rain left many roads in the south and west of Co Mayo under water - forcing motorists to make detours to avoid flash floods.
Meanwhile, following a meeting with her cabinet colleague, the Minister for Transport, Noel Dempsey, the Tanaiste Mary Coughlan has been given assurances the necessary arrangements are being made with Donegal County Council to have all necessary works carried out to replace and repair the local road infrastructure.
Ms Coughlan said: "I'm very pleased that such a speedy and swift resolution has been reached by this Government following the harrowing experience the people of Gaoth Dobhair have endured as a result of this dreadful flooding.
"The County Council have excelled in terms of the expertise and support provided."
Yesterday, many of Dublin's roads and rail lines fell foul of flooding after a night of torrential rain.
Vital roads around Dublin were left impassable, and some commuter rail and DART services were not operating.
Almost 12mm of rain were recorded at Dublin Airport, which equalled almost three weeks' average rainfall, all of which fell in a 90-minute period overnight. The airport remained open however.
