Police Hunt For Knife Attacker

An appeal has been launched after a man was stabbed after an 'altercation' in Dublin.

Gardaí at Fitzgibbon Street are investigating what they are calling a serious assault, which occurred on Parnell Street at approximately 3.45pm on Friday.

Launching the appeal today, a Gardaí spokesman said the 31 year old man was involved in an altercation with another man which resulted in him receiving a stab wound.

The victim of the attack was been taken to the Mater Hospital where his condition is described as being serious.

The culprit is described as being in his late 20s with a very tight haircut. He has a pale complexion and is clean shaven. He is believed to be approximately 6' to 6' 2'' in height.

His clothing at the time of the incident was a white/light coloured top and white/beige coloured knee length shorts.

He ran in the Marlboro Street/Summerhill direction.

A portion of the road was closed for a time but has since re-opened resulting in normal traffic movement being resumed. Meanwhile the scene on the footpath continues to be preserved.

Anyone who may have witnessed this incident, who may recognise the above description, or who may have any information to offer is asked to contact Gardaí at Fitzgibbon Street on 01 6668400, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
