Appeal Over Identity Of Train Death Man
Despite "exhaustive efforts", Gardaí are still struggling to identify a man who was killed after being struck by a train last October in Drogheda.
At the time of the incident, Wednesday 8 October 2008, Gardaí at Drogheda received a report that a person had been struck by a train on the North/South line at Greenbatter, Drogheda, Co. Louth resulting in instant death.
The body was taken to the mortuary at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital Drogheda.
Gairdai say exhaustive efforts have been made in attempting to identify the body and officers at Drogheda are now appealing to the public for assistance.
The deceased was a white male approximately 40-years-old, 5' 6'' in height and well built.
He had short black hair receding from the forehead and thinning at the crown. His eyes were hazel with a tint of grey. His left upper tooth at front was notably decayed and the last molar tooth on right hand side of lower jaw was missing (not as a result of the accident).
The skin on his hands was tough indicating the possibility of a manual worker, and his nails were short and trimmed. The body had no tattoos.
The unidentified man was dressed in black jeans with a brown leather belt, black fleece jacket with yellow trim and collar and a "National Geographic" logo on the left hand side of the chest.
He also wore a brown sheepskin jacket with white sheepskin on the inside of the "Mettle" brand. His footwear was "Activ" branded brown hiking runners - size eight or nine.
There was also a diabetic's kit found in close proximity to the body which may have belonged to the deceased.
Anyone with information to offer is asked to contact Gardaí at Drogheda on 041 9874200.
