Life Sentence For Teenager Killer
The man found guilty of the manslaughter of 14-year-old Melissa Mahon has been sentenced to life in prison.
Sligo man Ronald McManus, also known as Ronnie Dunbar, aged 44, was found guilty in May of the manslaughter of the teenage girl, but innocent of her murder.
The court also found him not guilty of threatening to kill one of his daughters, Samantha Conroy, a key prosecution witness.
McManus of Rathbraughan Park, Sligo denied the murder and the threat to kill during a five-week trial.
Earlier, Mr Justice Barry White described a victim impact statement by the family of Melissa Mahon as "disingenuous in the extreme" at a sentence hearing at the Central Criminal Court earlier this week.
However, the dead girl's mother, Mary Mahon, later expressed her anger at the judge's comments.
Mr Justice White then said he needed time to consider the sentence and adjourned the case until this morning where he announced the life sentence.
