Employers Relent On Electrician's Pay Cut
The employers of electricians have relented on their demands to achieve a 10% pay cut at the ongoing Labour Relations Commission (LRC) talks, following days of protest.
The talks on the electrical contracting dispute at the LRC adjourned shortly after 2am in the early hours of today and are to resume at 12 noon.
Only one employer, AECI, will attend this afternoons meeting to see if it will agree to refer its issues to the Labour Court for a binding decision.
The General Secretary of the Technical Engineering and Electrical Union, Owen Wills, said after the latest round of talks any referral to the Labour Court would be on the basis there would be no deterioration in existing pay and conditions.
Mr Wills stressed that there are still some major obstacles to be overcome and said he is not hopeful of a resolution at this point.
Speaking on behalf of employers, Eddie Keenan of the Construction Industry Federation said that he wanted to reassure electricians that their pay would not be interfered with.
High profile pickets by TEEU members remain in place this morning on building sites around the country, including the Corrib construction site in Co Mayo.
