Appeal Over Mystery Man's Identity
There's been a fresh call for help as police again try to identify a man who died in sheltered accommodation, some six months ago.
Gardaí in Rathmines today renewed their appeal for the public's assistance in establishing the true identity of the man who passed away at his residence in Rathmines on the 18th January 2009 from natural causes.
Although the deceased was known as Neil Cappleman, and his date of birth was known as 2nd July 1950, garda are anxious to establish this man's actual identity as they are anxious to trace a next of kin.
They said that while enquiries to date indicate the deceased was known as Neil Cappleman, they said this may or may not be his real name.
He lived at Hazelwood House in Rathmines which is sheltered accommodation and from that date, six months ago, his remains were moved to the Dublin City Morgue - where they remain pending a full identification.
By way of leads, they said there appears to be a link to Newscastle Upon Tyne in England, where the deceased may have lived.
Other documentation would suggest the deceased had a brother John in the USA and a sister Marion in Canada - but no further details or addresses are available.
Also, following on from help from the public, new information has come to light which would suggest that 'Neil' also has connections in Liverpool and it is also suspected that the deceased may have had some interaction with the navy - again possibly in the UK.
Neil has the word 'Alan' tattooed on his fore fingers.
The case has already been featured on a June episode of Crimecall, but with limited success.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Rathmines Garda Station at 016666700, any Garda station or the Garda confidential telephone number 1800 666 111.
