Another ATM Ripped From Wall By Robbers
Gardaí are searching for a gang following the 'excavation' and theft of an ATM in Co Wexford early this morning.
The filling station facility was attacked with a mechanical digger which was used to remove the cash machine.
It happened at the Mace filling station at Bellfield in Enniscorthy at around 5am.
As in other such incidents, the JCB machine was used in the raid and part of the station was left badly damaged.
The raiders are believed to have escaped with a substantial sum of money - around €160,000 - as the ATM was filled only yesterday evening.
It is believed they made off in a 4x4, towing the cash box in a trailer behind them.
The Maxol filling station and Mace shop remains closed after considerable damage was done to the premises.
Gardaí in other parts of the country are still searching for raiders who took part in a number of other ATM robberies in the last few months.
One of these incidents was in Co Fermanagh in recent weeks, when a similar method was used to remove the safe that feeds cash to the automated teller machine.
At the time, the PSNI was heavily criticised for the many hours delay in their attending the robbery, which senior officers later blamed on the danger of attack to officers from dissident republican terrorists who have been especially active in the area.
It happened in the early hours of a Saturday morning and saw the thieves escaping with the safe containing a large quantity of cash following the raid at the Clones Road, Newtownbutler.
