Man Critically Ill With Swine Flu
A man in his 30s is critically ill in St James's Hospital in Dublin suffering from swine flu.
The man, who is originally from Bratislava in Slovakia, was admitted to hospital late last week with the H1N1 virus.
The hospital said that the man, who has been working in Ireland for several years, is in a critical condition. A spokesman for the hospital said all necessary precautions were being taken and that the Health Service Executive and the Department of Health are fully informed.
The HSE is expected to brief the media on the man's condition later today.
According to the Department of Health and Children, 226 cases of human swine flu have been confirmed in Ireland but there have been no fatalities.
A total of 32 cases of person-to-person transmission have so far been documented, and the number is expected to increase.

'At Risk Groups' Urged To Get Flu Jab
The Irish health service has today launched it's 'flu vaccination programme and has called on "at risk groups and pregnant women" especially to take up the vaccination. The Health Service Executive (HSE) today reminded everyone at risk of influenza this winter to "get the vaccine, not the 'flu!" which also protects from swine flu.

Irish Swine Flu Cases Increase By 500 Per Day
It emerged yesterday that another swine flu sufferer is now gravely ill in the Republic of Ireland, making a total of two patients now 'critical' due to the virus. The State's health chiefs are now warning people with underlying medical problems that they remain at risk and also said that some 276 cases have been confirmed in Ireland.

Child Dies Of Swine Flu
Ireland's Health Service Executive (HSE) has confirmed a child has died from a strain of influenza, linked to swine flu. It is understood the child, who was from the west of Ireland, died in a Dublin hospital within the last week. They are believed to have had the H1N1 strain of influenza, responsible for the 2009 swine flu outbreak.

Ireland 'Not Ready' To Tackle Swine Flu
It has been revealed that the Department of Health do not believe Ireland has all the necessary elements in place to tackle swine flu, should a pandemic emerge. An internal document at the department last year warned there was a risk to the public due to a lack of cover arrangements in the event of an infectious disease outbreak.
