'Major Criminal' Arrested For Firearm Possession
A 24-year-old man, who is reported to be an influential and 'major criminal' has been arrested in Dublin last night.
The arrest was made as part of an ongoing operation targeting serious crime in Dublin city centre, according to Gardaí.
The man was stopped and searched on Charleville Avenue, Dublin 3, shortly after 11pm last night and was found to be in possession of a loaded semi automatic handgun.
Detective Gardaí from Store Street arrested him and he was taken to Store Street Garda Station where he is presently being detained under section 30 of The Offences Against The State Act.
He can be held for up to 72 hours.
In other news, Gardaí in Cork have arrested a man following an alleged shooting on the north side of the city.
It is believed a number of shots were fired outside an off-licence in the Hollyhill area at around 11pm last night.
Gardaí were called to the scene and detained the man, who is in his 40s.
He is being questioned at Gurranabraher garda station and can be held for up to 72 hours.
Nobody was injured in the incident.

Man Arrested Following Drugs Find
Drugs with an estimated street value of €170,000 have been seized by gardai during a raid on a property in west Dublin. Cocaine and cannabis was found during the raid at a house in Balgaddy. A gun and ammunition were also discovered. A 37-year=old has been arrested and is being detained at Ronanstown Garda Station.

Missing 25-Year-Old Man Found 'Safe And Well'
A 25-year-old man who was missing from Harcourt Street in Dublin has been found safe and well, Gardaí have reported. Simon Quinn was reported missing after last being seen at around 2.30am on Monday, 30 July. However, Mr Quinn has now been found and Gardaí said they wish to thank the media and public for their assistance.

Men Arrested Over €1m Cocaine And Heroin Find
Heroin and cocaine, with an estimated street value of €1m, has been recovered in a house search in Ballyfermot on Tuesday. Gardaí arrested two men, aged in their 30s, at the scene after officers uncovered 13kgs of cocaine worth an estimated €900,000 and 1.5kgs of heroin, with an estimated value of €225,000.
