Gardaí Say Murder Foiled By Arrest
Gardaí have revealed they have prevented a gangland murder attempt after arresting a 'major' criminal who was carrying a loaded gun.
The arrest was made as part of an ongoing operation targeting serious crime in Dublin city centre, according to Gardaí.
The man was stopped and searched on Charleville Avenue, Dublin 3, shortly after 11pm last night and was found to be in possession of a loaded semi automatic handgun.
Gardaí believe the 24-year-old was on his way to a pub in the north inner city with the intention of shooting a man he knew would be on the premises.
The arrested man was taken to Store Street Garda station where he was still being held last night under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act. He was carrying a loaded handgun which gardaí believe originated in the Czech Republic.
The suspect is believed to be related to a well-known senior gangland figure originally from the north inner city.
The news comes as Gardaí investigate what is believed to be a gang related bomb explosion outside a house in the south Dublin suburb of Rathfarnham
The explosion happened at the weekend outside the house on the upmarket Harold’s Grange Road.
The improvised explosive device (IED) went off at the front of a house at Rock Grove, Harold’s Grange Road, some time during Saturday night or Sunday morning.
Pipe bombs, have become a common feature in Dublin gangland in 'wars' over drug dealing.
