Gas Prices To Fall By 10%
From October, Irish households will have something to be pleased about as gas prices are to fall by almost 10%, according to Bord Gáis.
Bord Gáis Energy revealed it was to reduce the price of gas by an average of 9.8% from October in a proposal submitted to the Commission for Energy Regulation (CER).
The decrease would reduce gas prices to residential users by an average of 9.3% and to Small and Medium sized businesses by an average of 13.6%.
Bord Gais said that if the CER accepted the proposed price decreases then the combined impact combined with the reduction announced in May would mean a total decrease in gas prices by 19.5% for this year.
Commenting on the proposal, Managing Director of Bord Gáis Energy, David Bunworth, said: "When you combine this reduction with the savings Bord Gáis Energy announced in May 2009, we will see average gas prices drop to levels that are 22% below the typical bill in 2006 - customers are getting considerable value just at a time when they need it most."
Mr Bunworth went on to say that gas prices were affected by global oil prices and that the proposal reflected the opportunity to pass on reductions to their customers.
The CER is expected to announce a final determination in early September for implementation from 1 October.
The CER has begun a public consultation process and Bord Gáis Energy will be making a presentation of its proposed reductions at the planned CER Public Forum this week.
