Arrests Over Deadly Dublin Feud
Two men have been arrested after a spate of gun and pipe-bomb attacks in Dublin that led to the death of a known gang member.
The two men are in custody and a firearm and ammunition have been recovered following the shooting incident at Lealand Avenue at about 2am on Saturday morning.
During the incident a number of shots were fired at a door and windows of a house in the area. Nobody was injured in the incident.
Gardaí who were on patrol in the area intercepted the two men who are in their 20s.
The men were arrested and a shotgun and ammunition were recovered.
The arrests came shortly after the fatal shooting of a man at Lealand Close in Clondalkin, only hours beforehand, at 9.50pm on Friday.
During the incident a 25-year-old man was shot a number of times in the head outside a house.
The man, who has been named as Pierce Reid and from the area, was taken to Tallaght Hospital where he later died.
He is believed to be a close associate of currently incarcerated gang member Karl Breen, dubbed the 'champagne killer'.
Justice Minister Dermot Ahern said yesterday that tackling this type of gangland violence "remains a top priority".
The scene of the shooting is preserved for forsensic technical examination.
After the shooting, gardaí were led to a grey BMW at Lindisfarne Park, which is being preserved for technical examination. An attempt had been made to set the car on fire.
In the latest incident in the area, police are investigating a pipe bomb attack on a Clondalkin house at approximately 1.55am this morning.
The pipe bomb went off at the house on Deansrath Grove and damage was caused to the front of the building. The house was occupied at the time but no one was injured.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses or people who may have information relating to the incident to contact them at Clondalkin on 01 6667600 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
