Youth Detained After Garda Stabbed
A teenager has been arrested after a stabbing incident in Westport leaving a garda in intensive care.
Gardaí in Westport are investigating the incident in which a member of An Garda Siochana was stabbed in the abdomen at approximately 1am on Sunday morning.
The officer, Daryl Mullen who is 32 and a native of Tuam, was on duty on James St, Westport and while investigating an incident he received a stab injury to his abdomen.
He was taken by his colleagues to Mayo General Hospital where he underwent surgery; he is currently in intensive care.
A male in his mid-teens was arrested at the scene by Gardaí in relation to the incident and was taken to Westport Garda Station where he was detained; his period of detention was extended earlier this morning.
A knife was recovered at the scene and this morning the teenager has been charged and will appear at Mullingar District Court at 10.30am today.
A spokesman for the Gardaí said the injured officer remains in intensive care and his condition is described as stable.

Man Arrested Over Shooting Incident In Co Limerick
A man in his 30s has been arrested in connection with a shooting incident in County Limerick. A man in his 50s was seriously injured in the incident which occurred in Castleroy on Monday morning. He is currently in a critical but stable condition in hospital. The man is currently being detained at Henry Street Garda Station.

Man Arrested Over Donegal Shooting
A man is being questioned by gardaí in relation to a shooting that took place in Donegal at the weekend. The incident happened at a property in Churchill on Saturday morning. A 42-year-old man suffered injuries in the shooting. He was taken to University College Hospital in Galway for treatment.

Man Arrested Over Dublin Body Find
A man has been arrested in connection with the murder of a man in Dublin last week. The body of Kevin Molloy was found at his home in Glendhu Road in Cabra, Dublin, on Sunday 01 February. Investigating garda said they believed Mr Molloy's body had laid undiscovered for some time.

Witnesses Sought To Fatal Crash In Westport
Gardaí have issued an appeal for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision on the N59 main Mulranny to Newport Road. At approximately 9am this morning, Wednesday 25th April 2018, a male driver in his 50s and only occupant of a car was fatally injured when the car he was driving struck a stationary trailer.
