Tests May Show Park Body Is Romanian

DNA tests are to be carried out after lines of inquiry have suggested the woman found stabbed to death in the Phoenix Park last week was a Romanian national.

After a series of high profile appeals to the public, Gardaí have been given reason to believe the unidentified woman may be a Romanian woman who was living in Dublin for some time.

However, detectives said they are looking into almost 300 lines of inquiry.

Gardaí have also praised the help of the public, saying they have had a magnificent response to their appeals for information on the identity of the woman found stabbed to death on 5 August.

Gardaí have been liaising with Interpol and yesterday contact was made with a family in Romania.

DNA samples were flown into Dublin Airport in the early hours of this morning and these samples will be compared to the DNA of the unidentified woman later today.

Detectives are still urging members of the public who think they know the identity of the woman to contact them.
