Baggage Handler Arrested In Connection With Thefts

A man has been arrested in connection with alleged multiple robberies over a period of years from passenger baggage at Dublin Airport.

Gardaí said that a Servisair employee in his 20s was arrested and questioned a number of weeks ago about allegations of theft from baggage at Dublin Airport.

The ground handling company Servisair confirmed it is conducting an internal investigation into the claims some of its Dublin staff have been involved in the thefts.

A spokesman said: "Servisair takes such incidents very seriously and continue to work in conjunction with the gardaí and Customs to ensure that any such incidents are investigated thoroughly."

News of the incidences emerged after an anonymous tip-off from a company employee, who claimed the activity had been going on for a number of years.

Passengers from several large airlines passing through Dublin are believed to have been targeted.

After being questioned, the man was released without charge but garda investigations are believed to be ongoing.
