4Home Workers' Union To Meet Management

The Mandate trade union is to meet management at the 4Home superstore in Mitchelstown, Co Cork after a sit-in protest by workers ended on Friday.

Union representatives will today meet to discuss the company's decision to close the outlet, which led to 16 workers engaging in a sit-in protest at the shop last week.

Staff were told the store would close on Sunday and they would receive only their statutory redundancy entitlements.

The employees ended the protest on Friday night and returned to work on Saturday after management agreed to enter talks on an improved redundancy deal and the possibility of saving some jobs.

The store will remain open while the talks are ongoing.

Sean Sherlock, Labour TD, has called on management of the 4Home store to do the right thing by its workers.

"The company is behaving in a reprehensible manner toward these staff members, many of whom have given decades of loyal service," he said.

“The very least these people deserve is the opportunity to sit down and discuss the terms of redundancy package because the fact of the matter is the local jobs market is particularly challenging at present."
