Irish Contractors Overlooked, Claims CIF

The Construction Industry Federation of Ireland has called for a review of the public procurement process.

The body's call comes after a €1.5m development at Finner Camp was awarded to a Northern Ireland firm.

Contractors in the north west region of Ireland had also bid for the project.

The CIF has drafted letters to every TD in the country and to the chairpersons of all county, city and town councils urging them to change the existing procurement processes.

Local construction contractors should be given a better chance of getting on tender lists, the CIF said.

Secretary of the Donegal CIF branch, Ray Gilboy says North West contractors are not getting to compete on a level playing field.
