Four In Court Over East Belfast Riots

Four people have appeared before a magistrates court in the North charged in connection with rioting in east Belfast earlier this week.

The males, aged between 17 and 30, faced a number of charges including riotous behaviour, throwing a petrol bomb and damaging a police vehicle.

Trouble flared close to the Albertbridge Road interface on Monday night, running into Tuesday morning, and erupting again that evening.

Matthew Wood, 19, of Bannagh Corner, was charged with riotous behaviour.

Brian Millar, 18, of Beechfield Street faced three charges including damaging a police vehicle and having a baseball bat with intent.

George Garland, 30, of Albertbridge Road, was accused of four offences including throwing a petrol bomb.

A 17-year-old youth, who cannot be named because of his age, was charged with riotous behaviour and throwing a petrol bomb.

Six others, including two youths aged 13 and 17-years-old, will appear before a Belfast magistrate on Monday in connection with the violence.

The youths, along with four men aged 18, 19, 30 and 36 have been charged with public order offences, including riotous behaviour.

A 17-year-old boy is still being quizzed by officers while a 15-year-old boy was released on bail.
