Gardaí Reignite Appeal For Teen Killed In 1999
Gardaí are again appealing for information over the killing of Raonaid Murray ten years ago after new evidence emerged.
Gardaí at Dun Laoghaire are renewing their appeal to members of the public for information that will help them progress the investigation.
Raonaid Murray, 17, was described as an ordinary girl who "loved poetry, music, animals, writing and being out with her friends" by her grieving family.
Raonaid was killed on 4 September 1999. She was stabbed to death near her home and left to die in the street.
A Gardaí spokesman has revealed officers have since discovered that at 12.07am on the Saturday morning of the death, a young man crossed over Silchester Road where Raonaid was killed, just after the walk-way known as ‘The Cut’ and continued on down towards Adelaide Road.
The young man is described as in his 20s with short black hair cropped at the sides, approximately 5’10” to 6’ in height, of slight build, fit looking and wearing dark coloured trousers, not jeans.
Gardaí are also appealing to a female who was in the vicinity of Silchester Park between 12.20am and 12.30am on the same morning to come forward.
This female is described as being between 16 and 23 years of age, approximately 5’6”, with shoulder length dark hair and wearing trousers and a dark top.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone with information to now come forward and contact the Incident Room in Dun Laoghaire on 01-6665032, the Garda Confidential Line 1800-666-111 or any Garda Station.
A website, set up by Raonaid Murray's family, received around 50,000 hits since its launch on Friday, with more than 200 tributes to Raonaid posted on the site.
It was launched as a tribute to the teenager and also to encourage people to with any information to come forward.
The Murray family say they are "humbled and heartened by the public response" to the website.
The website www.raonaid.com will allow friends, family and the wider community to pay tribute to her.
