Talks Continue In Bid To Free Irish Aid Worker
The Irish Minister for Foreign Affairs Micheal Martin has held a second day of talks with government ministers in Sudan in a bid to secure the release of two GOAL aid workers, including a Dublin woman.
Sharon Commins, 32, from Clontarf, was kidnapped from the charity's offices in Kutum town, north Darfur in July by a ground of armed men, along with her colleague, Hilda Kawuki, 42, from Uganda.
Sudanese officials have said that the kidnappers are members of a nomadic tribe in the area, who are demanding a ransom, which the government is refusing to pay because of fears that it will lead to more abductions.
Mr Martin, who flew to Khartoum at the weekend, met with a number of ministers, including his Sudanese counterpart Deng Alor.
A spokesman for the Department of Foreign Affairs described today's talks as "very useful".
The Minister is expected to leave Sudan later tonight.
