Two Men Charged Over Separate Drug Incidents
Two men have been charged as part of separate investigations and drug seizures last night.
The first man is 47-year-old who was arrested in relation to Wednesday’s drug seizure at Dublin Port. He has now been charged and will appear before Dublin District Court 44 at 10.30am this morning.
Officers from Revenue's Customs service based at Dublin Port, supported by Gardaí, seized 700Kgs of herbal cannabis with an estimated street value of €8.4million on Wednesday this week.
The second man is a 34-year-old, who was arrested during seizure of a quantity of cocaine following a search operation in Naas, Co.Kildare.
During the initial seizure, Gardaí from the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation, the Organised Crime Unit and local Gardai from Naas carried out a search of a house at Laken View in Naas at 10.30 pm also on Wednesday, where a kilo and a half of what is believed to be cocaine was seized. The drugs, subject to analysis, have an estimated street value of €100,000.
The man was arrested and detained at Naas Garda Station, and he has now been charged under the drug trafficking act. He will appear at Kilcock District Court at 10am this morning.

New Powers Allow For Roadside Drug Testing
The Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Shane Ross has announced the commencement of the drug driving provisions in the Road Traffic Act 2016. One of the key measures in the legislation provides for Preliminary Drug Testing, which will enable Gardaí to test motorists whom they suspect of driving under the influence of drugs at the roadside.

Gardaí Arrest 45 In Major Drugs Operation
A total of 45 people have been arrested in the past 48 hours in Gardaí a crackdown on the sale and supply of heroin and “crack” cocaine in the Dublin region. The operation, which involved Garda drug units from Kevin Street, Pearse Street and Store Street stations, resulted in 150 charges being brought, according to Gardaí this morning.
