Plane Crash Reported Off Galway Coast

Reports were emerging on Friday afternoon that a light aircraft may have crashed off the Galway coast.

A search and rescue operation was launched following reports that the small plane crashed into the sea.

Emergency services received a call shortly after 2pm that a plane crashed while en-route from Kilronan to Inverrin.

However, official confirmation had yet to come through that the plane had gone missing or crashed while the Coastguard said they are investigating the reports.

A search and rescue operation was launched before 2pm this afternoon following the reports that apparently came from a member of the public that claimed to witness a small plane crashing into the sea.

The Aran Islands’ lifeboat along with lifeboats from Doolin and Galway Bay were involved in the operation which was assisted by the Shannon-based Coast Guard helicopter.

A comprehensive search into the incident is underway.
