Alvor Death Man Buried
Thousands of mourners yesterday attended the funeral of Londonderry businessman Paul Houston who was killed while on holiday in Portugal.
St Mary's Church in Ballybrack, Co Donegal was so full that the service had to be relayed outside to the hundreds of people unable to fit in the church.
The body of Paul Houston, 51, who owned Houston's Shoes in Derry, was found in Alvor in the Algarve region on 6 September.
The police there are treating his death as suspicious and have opened a homicide inquiry. It is believed he was the victim of a mugging.

Two Charged Over Alvor Killing
A teenager and another male have appeared in court in Portugal charged in connection with the death of a Londonderry businessman in the Algarve earlier this month. The accused, aged 19 and 26 and from Brazil, were charged with homicide and robbery. The 26-year-old was remanded in custody while the 19-year-old was placed under partial house arrest.

The badly beaten body of a Irish holiday maker has been discovered in the popular tourist destination of Portugal. Paul Houston, 51, and president of Greencastle Golf Club, was found in the fishing village of Alvor in the Algarve at 5am on Sunday.

Church Watchdog Critical Of Former Bishop's Handling Of Abuse Claims
A former bishop has been criticised after a report was published into claims of child abuse allegations and the behaviour of priests. The National Board for Safeguarding Children (NBCS) in the Catholic Church has published audits of many dioceses. Dr Joseph Duffy said he regretted the management of some cases.

The State Funeral of former Taoiseach, Dr. Garret FitzGerald is to take place this weekend in Dublin. Dr FitzGerald, 85, passed away in a Dublin hospital after a short illness. He served as Taoiseach twice between 1981 and 1987. On Saturday from 11.00 am until 7.

The Catholic Church could "fall over the brink" and become irrelevant to society, according to the Archbishop of Dublin. In a dramatic speech to the Cambridge Group for Irish Studies in the Magdalene College in Cambridge, Diarmuid Martin said that Catholicism in Ireland was being reduced to a tiny minority and becoming "irrelevant in society".
