Dublin Sex Offender Held After attack

A convicted sex offender is being held by Gardaí after an attack on a woman in Dublin.

The woman was attacked, robbed and held against her will in her home off Dorset Street in the early hours of Monday morning.

The held man had only been released from Wheatfield Prison 14 hours earlier.

The woman told Gardaí she had been pushed into a house in the area before the man checked the other rooms to make sure no one else was there.

However, the woman's screams were heard and the man fled when gardaí arrived.

The man, who is in his 30s, was later arrested at his home in Cabra.

The suspect is a recidivist sex offender who was first convicted of raping a woman in the mid-1990s. Within 36 hours of being released after serving that sentence he attacked another woman along the Royal Canal.

He was caught and sentenced to five years for that offence.

He is being detained at Mountjoy Garda Station.
