Teen Highjack Accused Remanded
A teenager who stands accused of first hijacking a doctor's car and then driving over one of his legs was served with a book of evidence today and remanded in custody pending his trial.
The doctor was left with a broken leg and is now unable to perform surgery following the incident in which he was allegedly dragged from his Mini Cooper after he had made a wrong turn.
The Dublin Children's Court heard details as the boy, who is aged 16, was charged with seizing the car at Sheriff Street in Dublin and assault, on April 27, 2008.
It also emerged that, in July, he had been granted bail with conditions which gardaí have said were repeatedly broken.
He had been ordered to obey a 6pm to 8am curfew, to reside at his home address and to remain away from the Sheriff Street, Common Street, Oriel Street and East Wall areas.
The teen's bail had been revoked on Monday last when Judge Bryan Smyth heard evidence from three gardaí who said they witnessed the teenager repeatedly breaching his curfew conditions.
