Chefs Back Local Suppliers

Irish restaurateurs are committed to supporting local suppliers and passing this information on to their customers.

The Restaurants Association of Ireland (RAI) Chief Executive, said that Irish restaurants are happy to supply information on food origin.

A forthcoming 'Real Food Festival' will provide RAI members with a platform to showcase the best of product on offer from their local suppliers, he explained.

"In the current climate it is more important than ever for our members to support the huge efforts put in by Irish food producers, therefore supporting Irish jobs," said Mr Cummins.

"We look forward to working with Bord Bia over the coming months as part of an initiative to introduce more local food and drink producers to our restaurant members.

"The culmination of this activity will be a week long festival, from 26th October to promote the importance of local sourcing in the foodservice industry."

Aidan Cotter, Chief Executive, Bord Bia added: "The Just Ask campaign aims to promote traceability, food provenance and Quality Assurance.

"We urge consumers to look for this information when eating out and for the foodservice sector to provide increase transparency regarding the origin of food.

"We look forward to working with members of the RAI, in particular to recognise and promote chefs who are demonstrating 'best practice' regarding menu information on the origin of food."
