Gardaí Praised In Border Bandit Hunt

Irish police and local people have each been praised for their quick response yesterday after armed men escaped with cash after robbing a bank in Co Fermanagh.

The PSNI have appealed for more information about the incident and also thanked the local community for their assistance and also praised the Irish police for their "swift response to the border incident".

A man armed with a gun entered the bank in Main Street, Belleek, at about 3.15pm and ordered staff to fill a bag with cash.

A second man stood at the bank's entrance while a third is believed to have been waiting in a getaway vehicle, a red BMW car.

No one was injured during the incident but people in the bank were shaken.

The car was found on fire a short time later about a mile over the border in the Camlin area.

A police spokesperson said it was believed the men transferred to a black Vauxhall Vectra with a possible registration of 01 DL 6318.
