Software Firm Creates 120 Cork Jobs
US software security giant McAfee has announced the creation of 120 jobs for Cork.
McAfee's widely known Internet security packages for Microsoft Windows provide protection against viruses and the company has recently exceeded market forecasts for its performance.
The company has been in Cork since 2004 and has an existing workforce of 180.
The new positions will be in the sales division of the company, who despite a relatively soaring year in comparison to the markets, has taken somewhat of a dip in recent months.
Today's announcement will double McAfee's sales team on this side of the Atlantic, allowing them to target a wider net of customers.
The IDA backed company is the world's largest security technology company and its Cork operations run its markets in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
The parent group has sales of more than $1.6bn a year and McAfee has grown in line with the development of internet commerce.
The jobs announcement follows the publication yesterday of Central Statistics Office figures, which showed the number of people unemployed has more than doubled in the last year to 264,000, with pace of job losses this year accelerating.
